$100,000 fund established
The Far North District Council has established a new $100,000 fund to help communities build ambitious and economically sustainable infrastructure, aimed at encouraging the creation of bold new infrastructure that directly benefits and is strongly supported by the community.
The fund would not cover repair or replacement costs for existing infrastructure, and could not be used for operational expenditure. Nor would funding exceed 50 per cent of total project costs. Applications, which must include a business plan, should be submitted by October 20. Go to www.fndc.govt.nz/services/community for more information.

Police have discounted alcohol as a factor in Monday morning's truck crash on SH1 south of Kaitaia, which left a curtain-sided truck nose-down in the roadside drain, its trailer upside down across the highway and triboard scattered over both lanes. The driver had passed a breath screening test, a police spokesman said. He had told police that he had been travelling at no more than 70km/h.
