The fourth round of the reserve A women's hockey grade had some of the closest match-ups yet with three of the four games resulting in 1-0 scorelines.
In a replay of last season's final, Hikurangi overcame rivals Old Girls with a first-half goal from Shannon Shepherd to claim the three points.
Hikurangi coach Tony Organ said "it was a good, honest, hard game with old foes battling it out as always."
Whangarei Girls' High School scored a 1-0 win over school rivals Kamo High School when they converted a chance early in the second half.
Girls' High's win moved them into third on a tight competition table early in the season.
Maungakaramea battled to a 1-0 win over a tough Parihaka side with a second-half penalty corner goal from Emily Luxford being the difference.
Springfield managed the biggest win of the round when they beat Mangapai 4-0 on Friday night.
In the reserve men's grade, Maungakaramea beat Bream Bay 4-1 while Mangapai beat Springfield 2-1 on Thursday.
The Whangarei Boys' High School second eleven who are new to the reserve grade got their first win of the season when they beat Hora Hora 3-2.
