Police pursuit
A police car was written off during a police pursuit in Whangarei yesterday.Acting Senior Sergeant Phil Halton said a stolen car was spotted south of Whangarei about 4.40pm. The car allegedly failed to stop and continued north and onto Porowini Ave where it collided with a police car. Six females were being spoken to late yesterday.
Missing man
Police are expected to continue their search today of the coast and waters around Shipwreck Bay, Ahipara, for a missing man. The 62-year-old Far North resident has been missing since Saturday. His car was located at Shipwreck Bay with the keys in the ignition. Senior Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe, the head of Search and Rescue for Northland police, said extensive inquiries had been under way since Saturday. Police and volunteer search and rescue teams, along with Coastguard and surf lifeguards, scoured the area around Shipwreck Bay all yesterday.
School wage talks
Support staff from around Northland will attend paid union meetings over the next two weeks to discuss wages and government funding. Two meetings, held by the New Zealand Education Institute, will be held at Whangarei Intermediate School at 9.30am and 1pm today and another two meetings will be held at Kamo Primary School tomorrow. The meetings will also take place in Kaikohe, Kaitaia and Kerikeri next week.
Police hunt man
Police are investigating a reported rape of a 16-year-old girl in Kerikeri on Sunday morning. The alleged offender, who has links to the Matauri Bay area, is known to the victim. Police are looking for him.
