Second division winner
A ticket sold in Whangarei was among 12 nationally that each won more than $11,000 in Lotto Second Division on Wednesday. The ticket, sold at Corner Cardz N Magz, in Maunu Rd, won its holder $11,342. Powerball will be worth $6 million in Saturday night's Lotto draw.
Gala a fun day for families
Zorb balls, giant bouncy castles and the superfast cannonball slide will all be part of the St Francis Xavier Catholic School Gala Day. The gala will be held at the school, on Percy St, on Saturday, March 18 from 9am to 2pm. Rides this year include zorb balls, giant bouncy castles and the superfast cannonball slide - a high speed slide, the vertical bungy, horse rides, mini hotrods and segways, mini ambulance rides and a merry-go-round.
Entertainment for the day includes the school kapa haka group and a variety of local artists.
Bream Bay to host festival
Bream Bay College will be hosting the annual Te Tai Tokerau Cultural Festival next month.
The festival, a showcase of kapa haka, is attended by 26 schools from around Northland. It will be held on Tuesday, April 10, starting with a powhiri at 9am and will run until Wednesday, April 11 with two performances from each school scheduled.
Fly tipping fine issued
The Far North District Council has issued one $400 infringement notice as a result of the illegal dumping of household rubbish in rural Church Rd, outside Kaitaia, in January. The rubbish yielded documents with two named and addresses which were given to the council. A spokesman said the recipient of the fine had 56 days to pay, query the infringement or request a waiver, after which the council could take legal action.
