Waitangi Golf Club have been rewarded for their hospitality as they once again will be the home of the premier North Island amateur competition.
New Zealand Golf have announced Waitangi Golf Club as hosts of the North Island Men's and Women's Stroke Play Championships, over 72 holes, beginning September 22.
Play beings on Thursday and Friday at 8am with 18 holes each day. The final 36 holes will be played on Saturday.
Past winners of the men's event include Olympians Danny Lee in 2008 and Ryan Fox in 2011.
World No 1 Lydia Ko was the women's champion in 2010 and 2011. The winner of the men's division last year, Lachie McDonald, turned professional earlier this year following in the footsteps of many past winners who have moved into the professional ranks.
Spectators are welcome to come and watch some of New Zealand's best amateur golfers in the spectacular setting of Waitangi Golf Club "where the sea meets the tee".
With 72 entrants from all over New Zealand local interest will focus on Kerikeri based Taylor Gill and Christian Nitsche from Whangarei.
In the Women's Championships Whangaroa's Samantha Dangen and Brooke Kingi will have plenty of local support, while Northland sisters Soktaera and Soktaerodh return to play at Waitangi.
