A main road in Whangarei will be closed overnight throughout this week, as work to improve the intersection of Kamo Rd, Kensington Ave and Nixon St continues.
The intersection - as well as the section of Kamo Rd directly north of it - will be closed from 7pm to 6.30am from tonight until Sunday to replace an underground stormwater drain.
Large illuminated message boards will warn motorists of the work and temporary detours, which will be along Kensington Ave to Park Ave for northbound traffic, and down Nixon St/Hatea Drive for southbound traffic.
Whangarei District Council project manager Mark Seakins said drivers should take care and expect delays.
"I'd also like to thank people in advance for their patience.
"Work on Kamo Rd and Kensington Ave is progressing well with most services relocated and new kerb lines going in," Mr Seakins said.
"Over the next two months, the new road alignment on Kensington Ave will be formed and Kamo Rd will be widened north of the intersection. Work on Nixon St is close to completion and the first stage of asphalting should begin by the end of September."
The entire project is on track to be completed by December.
