The Far North District Council is looking for a permanent chief executive officer.

Experienced local government manager Colin Dale was appointed the acting chief executive in January 2014, but later agreed to remain in the role until after the 2016 local elections.

A recruitment company has been engaged to help the new council that is elected on October 8 to appoint a permanent CEO.

Mayor John Carter said no appointment will be made until after the local elections.

"However, that is only two months away so we are getting the recruitment process under way now," he said.

Mr Carter thanked Mr Dale for his service. "We were fortunate to get a local government manager of Colin's calibre to step in at short notice."

Mr Dale has agreed to remain until a new CEO is found.
