Police have charged a man in relation to a triple fatality in Northland.

A 49-year-old Northland man has been summonsed to appear in Dargaville District Court on September 1, and will face eight charges relating to the crash in Dargaville on June 6 this year.

Three people were killed in the car crash as they travelled east along Baylys Coast Rd, and four were injured.

The 49-year-old, who was the driver of the car, faces seven charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing death or injury, and one charge of failing to remain at an accident.

Police said they would not be making any further comment as the case was before the court.
