It's a world where strangers following you is a good thing and being told you might end up in jail is a compliment.
Ricki Prime has found internet fame developing what he describes as "a live version of (dating app) Tinder", with more than 12,000 people tuning into his show, created and filmed in between shifts as a retail sales assistant in Whangarei.
On the primary video platform he uses, Blab, the 27-year-old has gained 12,460 followers in a matter of months and is the site's fastest-growing user.
His awards at the platform's annual awards ceremony included the wacky titles of "Blab King", "Best Personality", "Best Accent", "Best Show" and "Most Likely to go to Jail".
"I was given 'Most Likely to go to Jail' based on what I've asked people. I think it's because I'm the one who's not scared to try new things, to say 'no' when I don't feel comfortable to say 'yes' where other people hesitate," Mr Prime said.
Mr Prime is currently in the US attending forums and negotiating to have his flagship show "Hit It or Quit It" made into a late night TV show.
On it, two people meet and ask each other five questions, before they decide whether they would consider dating.
Mr Prime said people had "hooked up" in real life as result of the show.
In a world of overnight internet sensations, Mr Prime said his plan was to simply keep creating interesting content.
"The most common thing I have realised in this past year is that too many people hesitate and fall behind because of it," Mr Prime said.
This month Mr Prime had attended two US forums on growing live streaming platforms Periscope and Blab.
"These summits are filled with like-minded people who enjoy streaming to their audiences, The summit itself is filled with A-class streamers and motivational speakers. I was given sponsorship to attend and all the other stuff that comes along with it."
Mr Prime said he's still becoming accustomed to having "fans".
"It was a random feeling when someone tweeted 'I can't believe I'm sitting next to the Blab King', and seeing her fully fan girling."
