What do you do when you've already dyed your hair pink and shaved your head for charity?
The answer: You wax your legs.
Paramedics Nick Scott and Ben Lockie, who are in charge of St John in Kerikeri and the Far North respectively, have gamely volunteered to have their legs waxed ahead of Friday evening's Bald Angels fundraiser.
The men have set a donation target of $500 per leg - they have collected enough for one limb so far - and will allow their supporters, for a price, to pull off the wax strips.
Mr Scott's wife, Jodie, is behind the evil plan.
"I was running out of things to torture him with for fundraising, so I thought his legs would make good fodder," she said.
The pair will be joined by other ambulance officers who have agreed to get their heads shaved, but Mr Scott said they were less impressed with the idea of waxing their legs.
Mr Scott - who will be joined by his son, 7, and father, 67 - said the Bald Angels was a good local charity.
"We've seen the awesome work they've done. The money doesn't go offshore, it's for at-risk people in our community. We have to look at our own backyard too, it's an awesome place to live but there's a lot of people struggling."
The Bald Angels big shave, from 6pm at the Turner Centre in Kerikeri, will raise money for needy children across Northland. The organisers' aim is to raise $100,000 and persuade 400 people to shave their heads. The waxing will take place at 3pm, also on Friday, at The Sanctuary on Kerikeri Rd near the bypass.
