A woman in her 70s was taken to hospital after she was hit by a car in Whangarei. She was struck by the car on Maunu Rd, near the Maunu Hot Bread Shop and the BP service station, about 12.30pm yesterday.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said: "She was trying to cross the road to go to the bakery. She was in the median strip and a car, which was travelling pretty slowly because it had just pulled out, hit her."
Mrs Kennett said the woman was unharmed but was taken to hospital for observation. She said no charges had been laid.
