The graffiti-bombing of the toilet block at Okara Park has disgusted an elderly resident who says it's the worst attack of its kind she has seen.
"I'm in my 60s and I've travelled all over the word, and this is the worst I've ever seen ... anywhere," she said of the damage that has put the facility out of action for two days.
The woman, who asked not be named, phoned the Northern Advocate to say how disappointed she was that such acts continued to happen.
The women's toilets in the amenity block were hardest hit in the attack, with every surface, including light fittings and basins, covered in black scrawl, slogans, tags and obscenities, she said.
A painter repairing the damage, which was believed to have occurred on Sunday night, yesterday said it was the worst case he had dealt with.
"I'm forever coming in here and fixing up after graffiti but this time they really did a number on it," he said.
The toilet block is owned and run by the shopping complex, and is not a Whangarei District public facility.
