Backpackers who fear they may have been drugged and sexually assaulted at a Northland backpackers lodge are being asked to provide a picture of themselves to help with a police investigation.
Michael Harris, 56, was arrested on Monday after police raided his Main Street Lodge in Kaitaia.
Police executed a warrant under the Search and Surveillance Act after a complaint by a male tourist who told police he suspected something had happened to him while staying at the lodge.
Harris is accused of drugging young men, indecently assaulting them and taking images of the activity.
He is facing 39 charges involving 16 men aged between 18 and 26 who had been staying at the Main Street Lodge in Kaitaia's Commerce St.
Head of the investigation Rhys Johnston said the alleged victims were from Germany, the UK and America.
Since Harris' arrest Mr Johnson had received about 30 emails and phone calls. From those three potential victims from Germany had been identified.
Mr Johnston said those making contact should give their full name and as many contact details as possible such as landline and cellphone numbers, email addresses and Skype addresses.
"Police would also like potential victims to provide a photo of them, which will help the inquiry team in its investigations," Mr Johnston said. All information would be kept confidential.
The Main Street Lodge remains open and backpackers were still being picked up to go on tours to local attractions yesterday.
The lodge has mixed reviews on international travel website TripAdvisor.
Of 23 reviews one ranked the accommodation as excellent, nine very good, six average, three poor and four described it as terrible.
A Whangarei visitor said it was a great place to stay and well set up for visitors. He said it was one of the best backpackers he had stayed in and it was good value for money.
He said Mike the owner "was very friendly and answered all our questions".
In another review posted in February this year, a German couple said the only reason they had stayed there was because the owner had promised them work.
"Not once did Mike seem to enjoy what he was doing, nor did he seem to like meeting people from other countries and having their company."
An Auckland couple, who stayed in April last year, reported there was no respect for guests and the place was disgusting, ending their review with "worst accommodation with unprofessional standards".
