Workers at a Kaitaia bakery were terrorised by a knife-wielding robber who stole a small amount of cash.
Police are investigating the aggravated robbery of the Coast to Coast Bakery on Commerce Street which happened about 5am yesterday. (Sunday)
Once inside the shop the robber, believed to be a woman, armed herself with weapons including a large bread knife which was used to terrorise and make threats towards three staff in the shop before making off with a small amount of cash.
Detectives have been to the scene and recovered forensic evidence which they believed would lead to the identification of the suspect.
However, Detective Sergeant Trevor Beatson of the Kaitaia CIB appealed for information from the public to help solve the crime.
"We are confident that we will identify this person through forensic means. But we want to catch this person as soon as possible before they consider doing it again, or actually strike again," Me Beaston said.
Kaitaia Police can be contacted on 09 408 6500, or if people want to remain anonymous they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
