An Onerahi home was discovered to have been raided when a sister of the absent owners checked the place on Saturday.
She found a door ajar leading to the garage, where police suspect a door was forced to gain entry.
A 4.9m Fryan yellow and white aluminium boat on a trailer, two kayaks, four fishing lines, lifejackets and an all-terrain vehicle were missing from the garage.
It is understood the owners had been away since February 12.
In further police action during the weekend, officers broke the windows of a vehicle to to take its keys after chasing a motorist from Arapohue to Dargaville on Friday. The chase began when officers patrolling on Arapohue Rd about 11pm saw a vehicle U-turn and turn into State Highway 12, travelling towards Dargaville.
Whangarei police Acting Sergeant Conan Brown said police followed, and saw the car swerving over the road.
The patrol car's lights were activated after the vehicle turned into Victoria St.
The vehicle stopped but when an officer walked up to talk to the driver it drove off.
Police followed, signalling for the vehicle to stop, and when it pulled over again, apparently with mechanical problems, the driver locked the doors.
Police shattered a side window to remove the keys.
The driver, a 30-year-old Dargaville man, who was unco-operative, intoxicated and agitated, was handcuffed and taken into custody, Mr Brown said.
He was charged with driving with excess breath-alcohol, third or subsequent offence; driving while disqualified; and resisting police.
Meanwhile, a Whangarei Vine St bar staff member who went to the Walton Plaza Mobil service station to buy ice on Saturday night told police she put a $50 note into the cashier's security tray before she was given keys to a freezer.
When she returned with five bags of ice she was charged $22.50 despite protests that she had already paid and required change.
It is suspected another customer may have taken the $50. Officers are expected to examine service station security TV footage today to see if it reveals what happened to the money.
Two young people in their early teens were sitting in Whangarei's Laurie Hall Park about 11.30am on Friday when an older teenager approached and demanded they turn out their pockets.
Mr Brown said the pair handed over cigarettes and $35 cash.
The alleged robber made off down Bank St while the victims called police, who later charged a 15-year-old youth with robbery and remanded him to Child Youth and Family care.
