Northland's hardy sport supporters were not going to let a bit of wind and rain put them off heading along to cheer their teams, even if a cyclone was meant to be tearing the region apart.
With local cricket and speedway action cancelled due to the cyclone threat, rugby pressed on, with the only disruption being a couple of ground changes.
On Friday, Northland Cricket made a call to cancel the weekend's matches with an eye on public safety.
Competitions manager Neal Parlane said with covers needing to be put on pitches and the gale force wind expected, they could be at risk of flying off and hitting someone.
"We can't cover all the pitches [which need to be covered with heavy rain expected], it's either cover the pitches and risk people getting hit by them or not cover them," Parlane said.
Meanwhile, rugby followers rugged up and got out on to the sidelines for Saturday's matches. For Kamo rugby supporters, toughing it in the weather proved worth it as both premier and premier reserve sides in the Bayleys Southern Districts Competition picked up wins.
With Cyclone Lusi packing less of a punch than most expected, supporters ended up getting a bit of a dummy run for winter sport.
