Northland knights, damsels, fools and serfs will converge on the grounds of Kiwi North this Sunday.
It's the museum's annual day of Medieval Madness, with period costumes, jousting, archery, games, horses and food.
"It's a really fun day," said Kiwi North manager Allie Fry-Kewene.
"Everyone gets into the medieval theme.
"We've decided to make this an annual thing because it's such a popular event."
This year, Whangarei Riding for the Disabled has provided miniature ponies that children will be able to groom and lead through jumps.
Patrons can enjoy the spectacle of jousting by Guild of the Hawk at 11am and 2pm, with a fashion parade in between at 12.30pm.
"Come in costume and join the fashion parade. That's what makes it, when people come in costume," Mrs Fry-Kewene said.
Judging the fashion show will be Janet Mason (otherwise known in the medieval and steampunk circles as Cordelia Ford) and her partner, Michael Johnson (Phineas Squidd).
Ms Mason thoroughly enjoys dressing up in period costume, using the correct fabrics such as linen in clothing and eating food of the times. "Any excuse to get into character.
"I love the living history part. It's a very simple way of living - very relaxing - you don't have TV, phones, emails. We try to be as authentic as possible.
"It's very stress-free - unless it's raining and you can't get your fire going."
Ms Mason said the Medieval Madness day was fun for the whole family. "It's a chance to see something you've never seen before. The jousting that was here last year was the best I've ever seen - it's a fun day."
Medieval Madness starts at 10am and ends at 3pm, Gate 2, Kiwi North, 500 State Highway 14, Maunu, Whangarei.
