The wait is over for thousands of Northland students who could access their NCEA results online from yesterday morning.
The results were tipped to go live at 8am on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority website, but eager students, including Whangarei Girls' High School Dux for 2013 Selena Lawrie, could access them from as early as 7.30am.
Deputy chief executive for NZQA Richard Thornton said there had not been any issues for students accessing their results throughout the day.
Sleeping in on a day off from her hospitality job, 18-year-old Selena picked up her iPhone while in bed and logged in to the NZQA website and was delighted with her results.
A call to her dad in Christchurch to share that she achieved NCEA Level 3 endorsed with excellence, meaning she gained well over 50 excellence credits, rounded off the exciting morning.
She achieved all excellence credits in calculus and accounting, and getting not achieved in two classical studies externals didn't dampen her good mood while checking her results.
"Classics was my last exam and I was focused on my other ones," she said.
"I'm most happy with calculus because there were 17 credits in externals and it's been my biggest challenge this year."
"My parents are both really proud of me," she said.
However, not all students would be as rapt as Selena was.
Mr Thornton said, "If students have concerns or questions about their results and would like some advice about how they can gain extra credits then, they are best placed to have a discussion with their school, or even the tertiary education provider they were planning to study with.
"Some schools/providers offer summer school type programmes for example which may suit some circumstances."
Selena is moving to Wellington to study a bachelor of commerce majoring in accounting at Victoria University in February.
She was awarded scholarships from accountancy firm Gilmore Brown and Victoria University which will cover her fees for the first year, she said.
"I've been working part-time for four years so I have saved up quite a bit for university."
NZQA had quadrupled their staff in the call centre to calls from students who had forgotten login details and other issues throughout the day.
Information about NCEA achievement in Northland will be available on the NZQA website at the end of March after it has been analysed, Mr Thornton said.
