It's yo-ho-ho time of the year again when people fill their fridges and pantries for a big Christmas feast.
But for some Whangarei parents without jobs or family support, the festive season brings fears of being unable to put food on the table for their children.
So the Rotary Club of Whangarei Charitable Trust is repeating its Christmas Magic Moments project which last year distributed 80 food hampers to city families needing a helping hand.
The Rotarians are asking people to contribute cash or cans of food so as many hampers as possible, each filled with food valued at $80, can be delivered on December 22 - the Sunday before Christmas.
The hampers will carry the message: "This basket comes to you from someone who cares about you.
"All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone someday."
Cans of food can be dropped off at the Northern Advocate office at 88 Robert St, Whangarei.
Cash donations can be made by direct credit to the Rotary Club of Whangarei Charitable Trust ANZ Bank account - 06-0493-0486853-00.
Donations are tax-deductible. To receive a receipt, email your name, address and details of payment to the club treasurer at summerlee15@xtra.co.nz.
