Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies


A pedestrian who was killed by a vehicle in the Bay of Islands last night was walking along a poorly lit road in dark clothing, police say.

A police spokeswoman said the man, who was hit on Puketona Rd, near Haruru Falls in Paihia at about 10.30pm, was not seen by the motorist.

It was believed the pedestrian died at the scene, she said.

``It was dark. We are still yet to speak further with the driver to determine what happened fully,'' she said.




Paihia Police and emergency services were called to a crash where a vehicle ran over a pedestrian at 10.30pm yesterday.

As a result of injuries sustained the pedestrian died.   

Serious Crash unit was called to the scene.  

There is no further information at this time.
