America's Cup secret weapons are pulling more action in shopping centres than the New Zealand super catamaran contender is seeing at this year's San Francisco race venue.
Northland Toyota chief executive Bryce Woodward said a steady stream of supporters wrote their names and messages of support on the large replica dagger boards displayed at the Warehouse in Whangarei yesterday when the "Lean with us" campaign was in town.
"It's been fantastic," Mr Woodward said of the strong local response to the nationwide Toyota drive fostering support for the America's Cup bid.
'Lean with us' has allowed people a close-up look at the "leaner" dagger boards that are one of the most innovative components of Emirates Team New Zealand's giant America's Cup AC72 catamaran.
Many thousands of New Zealanders have signed the boards during the tour around New Zealand, after which they will be delivered to the team in San Francisco to keep at their base as a reminder of Kiwi support.
