Trio rescued from Northland bush

Three men who were lost in a Northland forest last night were found by rescuers about five hours after they contacted emergency services.

The men used a cellphone to call for help after becoming lost on a track in the Tangihua Forest, south of Whangarei, just before 6pm yesterday.

Police northern communications Inspector Kerry Watson said members of the Northland Search and Rescue reached the men at 10.45pm.

"They walked them out."

It was raining heavily at the time, Mr Watson added.
