MetService says Northlanders can expect a wet night with the heaviest of the rain coming about midnight and into the early hours of tomorrow.
A low is approaching northern New Zealand and a period of heavy rain is expected in Northland from later this afternoon until Thursday morning.
Forecasters say some places could receive 80-110mm of rain, which may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly and surface flooding.
There could also be some scattered thunderstorms .
Thursday will have some early rain/showers then becoming fine.
