Students get chance to learn from touring pros

Budding dancers in Whangarei got a special opportunity to learn from professionals at Whangarei Girls' High School.

Members of the New Zealand Dance Company held two workshops at Girls' High for 57 senior dance students yesterday, ahead of their performance in town tonight.

Dance teacher Leone Neal said the opportunity was special for the girls.

"They were really inspired. They took the students to a place that was more creative than usual, and showed them it was okay to be really creative and original. They pushed them really hard," Ms Neal said.

The dancers held a performance at lunchtime that about 100 students attended.

"It was really funny and entertaining. I think a lot of them are looking forward to seeing them again on Saturday night. We don't get many dance companies coming to Whangarei," Ms Neal said.

The New Zealand Dance Company is on tour performing Language of Living at the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre, Forum North, tonight at 7.30pm, tickets from
