A bank card in the pocket of a jacket left at the scene of a burglary led police to a pair of teenage burglars.
The three daytime break-ins occurred last month in Kerikeri, with targeted properties including a Cobham Court home and a Kerikeri Rd flat on April 27. Jewellery, an iPad, cellphones and bank cards were taken, but the tell-tale jacket was left behind.
Police Sergeant Peter Masters said two 15-year-old boys had been arrested, with one held in custody until his appearance in the Kaikohe Youth Court on Monday. The other had been referred to Youth Aid.
Mr Masters said the bank card had provided one avenue of enquiry, but other young people had helped identify and recover most of the stolen items. Some heirloom jewellery was still missing.
In the Kerikeri Rd burglary the youths allegedly also took a DVD player and a new TV, but left them behind on the lawn.
