Bash suspect on bail

A 25-year-old Paihia man has made his second appearance in court in relation to the bashing of a security guard.

Warren "Tiny" Dawson was struck from behind in the early hours of March 25 as he went to investigate a report of suspicious behaviour at the town's volunteer-built toilets on Marsden Rd.

He suffered a cut lip and bruising.

Later that night police arrested Kevin Micheal James Johnston, charging him with threatening to kill and assault with intent to injure.

Johnston, whose occupation is listed as a technician, was further remanded on bail and is due back in court on May 7.

He was in a group of three men and one woman, aged 17-25, who are suspected of vandalising the Marsden Rd toilets on the same night.

As of yesterday no arrests had been made in relation to the damage, but the Northern Advocate understands two of the suspects have lost their jobs.
