Police say man not to be approached

A man police say should not be approached is on the run in Northland.

Late last month police issued a warrant to arrest Leon Kereopa after he failed to appear in court.

Whangarei police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said last Friday police stopped a car allegedly driven by Kereopa on Kamo Rd about 11pm, but he drove off.

Police chased the vehicle and Kereopa then pulled into a driveway and ran off. A police dog and handler but were unable to track him and he remains on the run.

Kereopa is believed to carry firearms and has a history of violence and should not be approached.

If anyone knows of his whereabouts they can contact Whangarei Police on 09 430 4500 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
