Tired travellers sleeping in a Nissan Terrano got a rude awakening when their vehicle rolled along a Whangarei street and collided with a parked car.
The Terrano had been parked without the hand-brake on, and began rolling along Cheviot St, Whangarei, about 8am. It collided with a parked Nissan Pulsar, denting the Pulsar's bonnet.
A man living in a nearby flat said no-one emerged from the Nissan immediately after the collision, which he thought was odd, so he called the police.
The man was also concerned that whoever was inside the Nissan might drive off. Police decided no charges would be laid. The Nissan owner was potentially liable for a parking ticket, as the Nissan had been parked on the wrong side of the road.
However, given the nature of the accident and the fact the owner is now facing a repair bill for damage to the Pulsar, the ticket option was not pursued.
A police officer confirmed the Nissan driver had parked after deciding to rest after a tiring journey.
