Shopper took indecent photos

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with indecent assault after an incident at The Warehouse in Whangarei on Friday evening.

Acting police Sergeant Jim Adamson said a surveillance camera captured the alleged offender taking photos up a woman's shorts with his cellphone.

He said the female complained that the man had touched her twice.

Mr Adamson said the alleged offender had been charged and bailed and was expected to appear in the Whangarei District Court this week.

The case followed two previous incidents and police urged shoppers to keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour.

Last week, police were also called to check on a man seen taking photos of girls entering and exiting Pak'nSave in central Whangarei.

Last month, a man was seen hiding behind some bushes near a footpath outside the Christian Renewal School on Tarewa Rd and taking photos.

A staff member spotted the man but he walked away before he could be spoken to.

A Whangarei mother believes it was the same man who tried to lure her 9-year-old daughter into a van a few days later.
