Kerikeri's most popular swimming holes are also proving popular with thieves, police say.
The Fairy Pools on the Kerikeri River and Charlie's Rock on the Waipapa River are crowded with teenagers cooling off on hot summer days.
However, Senior Sergeant Peter Robinson, of Kerikeri police, said the two swimming holes had been repeatedly targeted by thieves over the past month.
Thieves were helping themselves to electronic items like cameras, phones and iPods while their owners were swimming or not keeping a close eye on their property.
Mr Robinson urged people visiting the Fairy Pools or Charlie's Rock not to bring valuable items. If they had to bring valuables, they should be kept close at hand and in sight.
Anyone with information about where the property had ended up or who was behind the thefts should call the Kerikeri station on (09) 407 9211 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
"We urge people to be vigilant and do what they can to avoid becoming victims of crime," he said.
