A teenage Whangarei woman has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old who collapsed and died while shopping in Whangarei. Suppression lapsed at noon on Monday for Shaylene Wharerau, also 17, who was initially accused of stabbing Brendon Panapa-Ripia in the chest four weeks ago during a domestic dispute. At the time Mr Panapa-Ripia received surgery in Auckland but he died suddenly last week while shopping at the Warehouse. The initial charge was upgraded to murder and Wharerau entered no plea to the charge when she appeared in the Whangarei
District Court last week. She has been released on bail and will re-appear in court next month.
