A 6-year-old boy braved inclement weather to raise more than $1700 for Ronald McDonald House by wheeling himself in his wheelchair around Dargaville. He hopes more will contribute to the website set up for the fundraiser.
Joseph Tebbutt was born with a number of health issues including a severe heart condition and abnormal muscle tissue in his legs so he uses a wheelchair for mobility. He requires specialist medical services only available at Auckland's Starship hospital, so he, his mum Erica and his twin sister Sophia are regular guests at the house.
The family moved to Dargaville in 2009 and despite the disruption caused by having to all travel back and forth between Dargaville and Auckland, they have found comfort in having Ronald McDonald House as their second home. Joseph took one hour 15 minutes to complete the 5km route recently, encouraged along by supporters, friends and of course Erica and Sophia. Erica, who organised the walk, says all the money raised goes to the house.
