Two men charged with murdering a Northland man can now be named as a High Court trial begins in Whangarei.
Name suppression was lifted for Wayne James Bracken, 35,and Neville Joseph Dangen, 24, who were flanked by security guards yesterday as the jury was chosen to hear the trial which is expected to last five weeks.
It took 40 minutes for the jury of six men and six women to be chosen after 22 people were stood down by Justice Edwin Wylie. Defence lawyers made three challenges.
Bracken and Dangen have been charged with murder on February 25, 2011. Both men also each face a charge of kidnapping at Kaeo on the same date.
Bracken faces additional charges of aggravated robbery, assault with intent to injure and unlawfully entering a building all relating to events between January, 1, and February, 25, 2011.
Dangen is also charged with receiving a boat worth in excess of $1000, between January, 1, and February, 25, 2011.
The trial will start on Wednesday.
