Mum's memory sparks sacrifice

By Peter de Graaf

Sabrina Glauser knows all too well the terrible toll cancer can take after losing her mum to the disease when she was just 3.
So the Waipapa 15-year-old is sacrificing her lovely long tresses to raise money in the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation's "Shave for a Cure" campaign. As of Friday she had raised $1267; she's aiming for at least $2000.
"I'm a bit scared and nervous. I've never had short hair before and I don't know what it will look like. I might get a cold head too, but I'm happy to do it." She was too young to remember her mother well, but knew she was a "really happy" person. "My uncles and aunties especially say she was a lot like me, and even looked like me."
Sabrina said her dad was happy she is raising money for a good cause.
To sponsor Sabrina go to the Shave for a Cure website, Her locks are coming off at Hermana's Hair Salon in Waipapa on June 30.
