Farm sales up on year

By Mike Barrington

Twenty-five Northland farms were sold in the three months to February 28 - 13 grazing properties, five dairy farms, four horticulture blocks and two special farms.

The Real Estate Institute median sales price per hectare for the four Northland dairy farms was $18,981, up on the $14,315 median in February last year but well down on the $33,254 per hectare median for the 77 dairy farms sold nationally in the three months to February 28.

The $5611 median price per hectare for the 13 grazing farms was just over half of the $10,047 median per hectare for Northland grazing properties sold in February last year. The median price per hectare for the 169 grazing properies sold nationally to February 28 was $12,900.

The four Northland horticulture blocks sold had a median price per hectare of $55,868, only slightly down on the $62,015 median for January but well below the exceptionally high $400,000 median for Northland in February last year.

The two special farms sold in Northland had a median price per hectare of $105,933. The 16 special farms sold nationally in the three months to February 28 had a median price per hectare of $10,163, down from $31,817 in February last year.

Meanwhile, 115 lifestyle blocks were sold in Northland in the three months to February 28. They had a median sales price of $320,000, which was down on the $349,000 January median but not far below the $327,500 median in February last year.
