Hawkes Bay rattled by quakes overnight

A series of earthquakes have hit the Hawkes Bay overnight.

The first at 12.47am, struck 20km south of Wairoa, with a magnitude of 2.9.

It had a depth of 16 km.

Two more earthquakes struck the same area within 30 minutes.

The largest quake, with a magnitude of 4.4, was felt just before 7.30am. It was also 20km south of Wairoa and was 18km deep.
