In one of her last Twitter messages before she was killed, glamorous South African model Reeva Steenkamp said she was excited about surprising her Olympic star boyfriend Oscar Pistorius on Valentine's Day.
But the 30-year-old TV presenter was shot four times at her lover's upscale home in Pretoria and Pistorius, a double amputee athlete known globally as "Blade Runner", has been charged with her murder.
Hours earlier Steenkamp had hinted on Twitter at having romantic plans for February 14, tweeting: "What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? #getexcited #ValentinesDay".
In response to one of her thousands of followers late on Wednesday, she added: "It should be a day of love for everyone :) may it be blessed!".
Steenkamp, who was an avid tweeter and described herself as "Law Graduate, Child of God'' in her profile, regularly mentioned Pistorius, 26, in her posts, referring to him as her "boo" and "an amazing person". The pair had been dating since late last year.
"She was the kindest, sweetest human being; an angel on earth and will be sorely missed," her publicist Sarit Tomlinson said in a statement.
On Sky News, she added that the couple had a "healthy, fabulous relationship".
Steenkamp's modelling agency Ice Model Management described her as "a wonderful, beautiful, and caring soul" who will be "missed immensely".
Born in Cape town, Steenkamp grew up in Port Elizabeth where she graduated with a degree in law from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
She went on to do presenting work for Fashion TV South Africa and was picked to be the face of Avon Cosmetics. She also appeared in commercials for major brands such as Japanese carmaker Toyota and Italian brand Zui.
She had become one of her country's "most sought after personalities" and was aspiring to be an actress, according to her public relations agency Capacity Relations.
She was also named one of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World for the past two years by global lifestyle magazine FHM.
In her latest project, Steenkamp was to appear in the South African celebrity reality show Tropika Island of Treasure, which was to begin airing this weekend.
Steenkamp had a passion for cars and cooking, and when not at work, she liked to read a book or spend "quality time" with friends and family, the show's producers said on their website.
Happy to share the joys of her new relationship with her online followers, Steenkamp earlier this month posted a black-and-white of a pensive-looking Pistorius with the caption: "He certainly doesn't need more followers but he's beautiful to look at & says some smart stuff too."
