A man who was Tasered after allegedly threatening police officers with a bayonet and knife was given a registrar's remand today.

Mathew Wisdom, 18, is charged with assault and possession of an offensive weapon after the alleged stand-off near Culverden, in North Canterbury, on January 12.

Police said the incident, which ended with Wisdom being Tasered, started when an officer was making inquiries about a dog seen running loose on the highway near Culverden about 9pm.

The officer claimed the teenager "aggressively" suddenly came at him armed with a bayonet and a knife.

Wisdom will appear at Christchurch District Court next Monday.
