Body found at Arkles Bay

A woman's body was being removed from the beach at Arkles Bay on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula this morning.

The body was discovered about 6.45am.

Police had a list of people to speak to this morning but would not be drawn on the likely cause of death.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty said it was too early to say whether a homicide investigation would be launched.

"At this stage the death is unexplained. We need to let the investigation run its natural course," he said.

Mr Batty expected to be able to release more information later this morning.
