Two teenagers are in hospital with serious injuries after a road accident in Southland last night.

Senior sergeant Maggie Windle, of the Invercargill police, said emergency services were called to the intersection of Isla Bank and Flints roads, Taramoa about 6pm.

Ms Windle said a Nissan Navara was travelling north and turned into a driveway, colliding with a Mazda Lantis.

An 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman received serious injuries and both were taken to Southland Hospital by helicopter.

Police, fire service and ambulance attended the scene, with a Riverton doctor also giving assistance.
