Most people do their best to avoid meetings. Not Cathy Casey.

The Auckland councillor attended 187 council or committee meetings in the 2011/12 financial year, according to figures obtained by the Herald on Sunday.

Casey attended all 18 full council meetings, with three fellow councillors and Mayor Len Brown, and made roll-call at 169 committee meetings, 35 more than she was expected to. Casey denied being a meeting junkie.

She said going to as many meetings as possible meant she could serve her constituents better.

Councillor Richard Northey also scored a high attendance rate.

He missed three full council meetings but showed up to 151 committee meetings, 22 more than required.

Councillor Sandra Coney had the lowest attendance. She showed up to 13 full council meetings and 109 committee meetings.

"Performance is not measured by a bums-on-seats contest," she said.
