A mother and her son have escaped unscathed from a house fire in Petone this morning.

Fire Service central communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said crews were called to the Adelaide St house about 4.21am.

The house was destroyed in the fire, which has been extinguished, he said.

The home's occupants, a mother and her son, escaped the blaze.

Mr Dunbar said no one was injured in the blaze.
