Man critical after Wellington assault

An early morning fight outside a Lower Hutt service station today has left a 27-year-old man in a critical condition.

Police said two pairs of men got into a fight outside the Caltex station on The Strand in Wainuiomata just after midnight.

Two men in a blue four-door sedan got out of the car and began fighting with the other pair before fleeing at high speed.

A 27-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward.
