The Warriors have today unveiled Matthew Elliott as their new head coach.

The former Bradford, Canberra and Penrith coach has signed a two-year-contract, replacing the vacant spot left by Brian McClennan who parted ways with the club with two matches left in the 2012 season.

Elliott becomes the club's ninth head coach, including Tony Iro's brief two-game stint at the end of last season, and the fourth Australian to take over the top job following John Monie (1995-1997), Daniel Anderson (2001-2004) and Ivan Cleary (2006-2011).

Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said the club was "thrilled to secure a coach of Matthew's calibre".

What a management joke. The club pushed out Cleary (fact). Hire Bluey for less than a season. Talk rubbish about hiring a super coach. Realize they cant get a super coach. Then end up hiring the sacked and very average coach Cleary replaced. Good work! I feel a wooden spoon coming on.

This really is a joke. All the talk about getting a super-coach, absurd. Sure, it was going to be difficult. Why, then, not keep your mouth shut? They would have been better to stick with Iro, at least until they could get someone really high profile.
