Sonny Bill Williams has announced he is set for a stint playing rugby in Japan.

Off contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union at the end of the season, Williams has signed a lucrative deal with Japanese rugby side Panasonic but currently has no deal in place for 2013.

One thing is for certain - he will not be playing rugby in New Zealand. The former Canterbury Bulldogs second rower has long been rumoured to be returning to the NRL with cross-town rivals Sydney City, with a view to switching back to rugby in 2014.

His contribution to the ABs over 17 tests hasn't exactly been electifying. A bit hit and miss at best. I think it would take more than 6 tries (most against soft oposition) to make him any great loss to NZ. In fact, it may be a postivie for AB fans. Maybe we can now foucs on rugby rather than the social life and times of SBW.

Yes, he should have left ages ago. I offerred to drive him to airport but that hint didn't compute.

No, he is finally hitting his straps and has the potential to be a global superstar and enjoy the benefits of that brand. Fair enough 6 months in Japan for that sort of money but don't know why he is returning to league
