Golf: Pearce claims Victorian Pro Am

Otago professional Mahal Pearce has enjoyed his biggest win in a decade by claiming the Victorian Pro-Am by one shot today in Melbourne.

The 34-year-old, who is the last Kiwi to have won the New Zealand Open after claiming the title in 2002, shot a one over par 73 in trying conditions to triumph in the Pro-Am by one shot from Victorian Ashley Hall.

The Kiwi professional had rounds of 68, 73, 70 and 73 at the Legends and Open courses of Moonah Links.

The Pro-Am is a new event on the PGA Tour of Australasia and Pearce claimed $23,000 by enjoying a win that has been a long time in the making.
