National is planning to give employees not already in KiwiSaver "a bit of a shove" by automatically enrolling them in the scheme but Labour says the move is timid and promises its policy will give KiwiSaver a bigger push.

Finance Minister Bill English said yesterday that after considering a recommendation this year from the Savings Working Group, his government had decided to proceed with KiwiSaver auto-enrolment as part of plan to increase New Zealand's national savings.

Just another tax on employers if they are made to pay, small businesses are struggling enough as it is. Surely the public are sensible enough to deide for themselves if they can afford to save and wether or not they want Kiwibank to hold their money. Saving is good if people can afford it.

Nice in theory, however, it will be very difficult for low income workers and there are many of them. Good to see the option to opt out of Kiwisaver will still remain for those who would genuinely struggle with the weekly deductions.

How can you trust National to do the job properly when they have one eye on the polls. Judging by the hoardings Key now has some 'plans' to halt his blighted future. Guess he finally discovered the Labour Party website.
