British soap Coronation Street has been labelled "the Sodom of the North" by a British writer who laments the expanding number of gay characters and its "sexual propaganda".

Brian Sewell, a writer for the Daily Mail, says the soap has morphed from its "gritty, working-class" Lancashire roots to "shoddy, tinsel-edged glamour" where the characters are "showered, prinked and perfumed - particularly the men".

His comments have been slammed by commentators in Britain - and even posters to the Mail's often partisan website.

Gone the way of society generally, descended into a morel decaying quagmire. Led by people who would wish it so to be.

I watch Coro on a fairly regular basis, when the story lines are good and worth watching that is. From what I can see, the characters are portraying a wide cross section of society in general!

Life in Lancashire, like the rest of the world, has changed and evolved radically, since the soap first aired over 50 years ago and this fact is reflected through the programme.

My main gripe with Coro are the sluggish story lines, which seem to go on forever, until I find them utterly boring and mundane. In this case, I give some episodes a miss and tune in at a later date, in the hope things have moved on and improved!

Estimates are that 10% of society are LGBT. There are approximately 70 regular or semi regular characters. That's 7 characters that are 'allowed' to be gay etc. Looking ahead at the number of LGBT characters there are . (Dah dah dah) seven!

At the end of the day it is about the stories of the characters not their sexuality. Is Hayley Cropper being born a man really being forced down our throats every episode?

Good God, its only a TV show. If you don't enjoy it then lean over to the coffee table, pick up the remote and change the channel.
