Peter Milne say he has applied for between 100-120 jobs, and had a dozen interviews, but can't get anything more than temporary on-call jobs driving and as a movie extra.

Graham Rogers of Manukau-based Advance Personnel Services says the job market was still "extremely tough".

"We used to have a huge workload in warehousing and in the last 18 months that has virtually dried up."

There is always a shortage of fruit pickers and pruners.

Others with initiative start their own business, legal of course. Long hours, not much profit but plenty of job satisfaction.

If a person starts with the attitude that the world doesn't owe them a living they are half way on the road to success.

The job markets still not good, all the anecdotal evidence and statistics points at that. I sympathise with people out there. I was made redundant in a past similar recession when the company collapsed and I went on the UB. I applied for many jobs in my area which is highly skilled, plus unskilled work.

It wasnt easy and it was depressing which sapped self belief, and in hindsight I didnt do all things right. But I did persist, wrote a good cv, and got casual work. Around job application 100 I struck a fantastic job which lasted for years, so persist!

People do have to look outside the box & take away misconceptions regarding where they want to work, what type of work they want & look at what work is available.

People really need to look at their cv & presentation at the interview.

I for one would keep away from employment agencies as I have not had any of my friends come away with a good feeling about themselves, let alone a job.
This is not the depression, but I think we can see it from here.
