Is Google evil?

8:13 AM Thursday Jun 10, 2010

Google and US telecom carrier Verizon have denied they were in talks on a scheme to charge digital content makers fees to have their traffic routed more quickly across the internet.

Such an arrangement would be seen as a major blow to the campaign for "net neutrality" in which no content is given priority treatment online.

Google has long championed net neutrality, which has also been a priority for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Have a look at isgoogleevil.com (really!)

Also from definitions:

1. Morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked: YES (particularly the immoral)

2. Harmful; injurious: YES (with how much infromation they already illegally share)

3. Characterized or accompanied by misfortune or suffering; unfortunate; disastrous: NO (well, not really)

4. Due to actual or imputed bad conduct or character: YES (bad conduct)

5. Marked by anger, irritability, irascibility, etc.: NO
Only has to be true for one definition for them to count as evil. Luckily (unluckily) for them, all of these are very subjective, and they can go on thinking that they're not evil.

And I'll keep using google and gmail, because I frankly don't care!

Google have had this coming to them.

Since the introduction of PageRank, the online playing field has not been a level one, making it difficult for new websites to do well in the search results.

PageRank can also make it detrimental for another website of a lesser score to link to you.

Shame on Google, Karma will keep you honest.
